Dr. Sharkey is an internationally recognized expert and leader in the field of hip and knee replacement and the Director of the Thomas Jefferson University Orthopaedic Surgery residency program. He is a noted expert in complex hip and knee replacement, revision joint surgery, and joint reconstruction.
Dr. Sharkey received his medical degree from the College of Health Sciences in Syracuse, N.Y., where he graduated magna cum laude. Following medical school, he completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and then performed a fellowship in adult hip and knee reconstruction at the Rothman Institute.
After four years as Director of Adult Hip and Knee Reconstruction at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Oakland, Calif., Dr. Sharkey returned to the Rothman Institute in 1994. He is a member of The American Orthopaedic Association, The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Hip Society. He is very committed to orthopaedic education and academic medicine and has published numerous scientific articles on joint replacement.
Dr. Sharkey sees patients at the Rothman Institute's Center City and Media, PA locations.
