The mission of the Rothman Institute Orthopaedic Research Department is to engage in research activities related to musculoskeletal diseases with the hope of finding better and more effective treatment for the patients afflicted by these conditions. The research focuses on outcome-based data in the fields of hip, knee, spine, shoulder, elbow, foot, ankle, and sports injuries and conditions.
The Research Department is also engaged in national and international studies evaluating the effectiveness of surgical and non-surgical treatments for musculoskeletal conditions. These collaborations, besides providing scientific endeavors, allow us to collect information on conditions that are rarely encountered in the United States but are commonly seen in other countries. At any time various scientists and surgeons from various countries visit the Rothman Institute Research Department.
Many of the orthopaedic surgeons at the Rothman Institute are involved in clinical research studies and trials. These studies range from national, multicenter clinical trials to study the newest pharmaceuticals and devices to surgeon-initiated studies focused solely on our patients at the Rothman Institute. The Orthopaedic Research Department also has active collaboration with various academic institutions in the United States.
The Rothman Institute Orthopaedic Research Department currently employs 25 full-time personnel who are all actively engaged in clinical research. We have close collaboration with the 42 full-time scientists of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University. |
