Michael G. Ciccotti, M.D.

Dr. Ciccotti, Director of the Sports Medicine Team at the Rothman Institute, is internationally recognized for his work in sports medicine. He is a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery , Chief of Sports Medicine, and Director of the Sports Medicine Fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University. He serves as Head Team Physician for the Philadelphia Phillies and St. Joseph’s University.

He is board certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and has served on the Board of Directors for the major Sports Medicine Societies in the world. He has authored numerous articles, research, and textbooks and has lectured extensively nationally and internationally on sports medicine. He has been consistently recognized as one of the “Top Sports Doctors” regionally and nationally.  Dr. Ciccotti currently serves as the President of the Major League Baseball Team Physicians Association.

    In anticipation of the upcoming Philadelphia Phillies season the organization granted the Rothman Institute unprecedented behind the scenes access to their medical team. Dr. Michael Ciccotti, Chief of Sports Medicine at the Rothman Institute and Head Team Physician for the Phillies served as tour guide into a world most fans have never seen; until now. During the course of the next few weeks, the Rothman Institute will post stories detailing what a day in the life is like for the doctors and staff who keep the Phils fighting.

The ace right-hander admitted to feeling discomfort in his shoulder after Sunday’s start against the Miami Marlins, and spent yesterday visiting with Dr. Lewis Yocum in California.
    Phillies team physician and Sports Doc panelist Michael Ciccotti, M.D., says he doesn’t take it personally when a player asks to get a second opinion on an injury. In fact, he encourages the practice, and does everything in his power to ensure the player receives the best possible opinion.
