Hand Fractures

Fractures of the metacarpal, or hand, bones account for approximately one-third of all hand fractures. The hand bones can fracture near the midbone, knuckle, or near the wrist. The most common symptoms of a broken hand bone include:

• Swelling
• Tenderness
• Deformity
• Inability to move the finger
• Shortened finger
• Depressed knuckle
• Crossed fingers when attempting to make a fist
