Non-operative Wrist Tendonitis Treatment

Immobilization - Wrist tendonitis is primarily caused by the recurrent irritation of the tendon and its sheath during movement. By resting the tendon, through the aid of a splint, the inflammation can decrease.

Ice - Intermittent application of an ice pack to the area of inflammation may also prove to be beneficial. Icing will help cool the inflammation while also stimulating necessary blood flow to the afflicted area.

Anti-Inflammatory Medication - Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (such as ibuprofen, for example) are often prescribed to help alleviate symptoms of pain, as well as decrease the swelling and inflammation of the soft tissues. These treatment medications can help to decrease the inflammatory response, and thus help improve some of the pain.

Cortisone Injections - Cortisone is a very powerful anti-inflammatory treatment option that is delivered via injection directly to the site of inflammation. These injections are considered safe, but must be limited in use since too many cortisone injections over time can actually weaken the tendons.
