Technology helps keep boomers fit

 Fifty years ago, it would have been hard for most people to imagine replacing a human knee or hip with an artificial joint.

Today, about 1 million U.S. residents get a hip or knee replacement each year. Advances in orthopedics also provide artificial joints to replace damaged shoulders, wrists, elbows and ankles.

As director of joint replacement at the Rothman Institute, Dr. Matthew Austin is at the forefront of this bionic revolution.
