Don’t Postpone Your Joint Replacement Surgery Due to Covid-19

Chad A. Krueger, MD August 31st, 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic has created many challenges for patients who were seeking surgical treatment for their debilitating hip and knee arthritis. Studies have shown that patients who have had their hip and knee replacement surgery delayed secondary to COVID continue to be in severe pain and would like to undergo their procedures as soon as possible.

While some of those challenges are logistical in nature, others are a bit more challenging to address. Chief among these are the anxiety and confusion that some patients may encounter when trying to decide if they should undergo their joint replacement procedure. These are not unusual or unfounded concerns considering the ongoing pandemic. However, our patients should rest assured in knowing that Rothman Orthopaedic Institute is going to extreme lengths to keep them safe and allow their patients the procedures they desire.

These policies have allowed our patients to safely come to our facilities and undergo the knee and hip replacements they desire. Our rate of asymptomatic patients testing positive is less than 1% so patients should feel safe that when they are in our facilities. Our surgeons are skilled in helping patients to be safely discharged to their homes as soon as possible after their procedure (often the next day) and many of our patients do not need to go to any formal physical therapy after their hip or knee replacement takes place.

Furthermore, our perioperative optimization processes help patients avoid needing to go to any rehabilitation facilities after surgery. In short, we specialize in getting patients the surgery they need and then get back to the comfort, and safety, of their home.

For in-office visits and surgeries, patients can expect the following:

  • Customized safety protocols following latest CDC guidelines
  • Staff and patients are required to wear full PPE
  • Cleaning protocols to ensure constant sterile environments
  • Patients are asked to come into the offices alone (unless support is needed). We ask that loved ones or companions please wait in the car during the visit.

We know that life is hard enough with all of the restrictions, dangers and concerns that the COVID-19 pandemic has brought upon our patients. We do not want them to add suffering from their hip and knee arthritis to these daily struggles. Rothman Orthopaedics specializes in hip and knee replacement surgery and has adapted to the current pandemic so that we can continue to provide these life-changing surgeries to you.

Dr. Chad Krueger is a joint replacement surgeon and sees patients at Willow Grove, Abington and Chalfont. To schedule an appointment please visit RothmanOrtho.com or call 800-321-9999.
