More bad news for the Jets

Christopher C. Dodson, MD October 3rd, 2012

The New York Jets released more devastating news this morning. Following last week, the Jets lost their star cornerback Darrelle Revis to a torn ACL that would take him out for the rest of the reason. But the blows won’t stop for the Jets. Starting wide receiver Santonio Holmes suffered a season ending injury to his left foot this past Sunday. Although initial x-rays were negative, an MRI confirmed the Jets worst fear: a Lisfranc injury. A Lisfranc injury is an injury of the foot in which one or all of the metatarsal bones are displaced from the talus. These injuries most often occur in athletes when a sudden rotational force is applied to a plantar flexed (downward pointing) forefoot. Although no fractures are present, the ligaments connecting the bones are torn, rendering the foot unstable. Surgery is usually necessary to prevent severe loss of function and progressive pain and disability.
